How much money did attacker demand during break-in at Saif Ali Khan house?
An intruder broke into actor Saif Ali Khan’s residence in the early hours of Thursday, targeting the 11th floor of the duplex where his family resides.
The incident unfolded around 2 a.m. when the actor’s younger son’s nanny, Eliyamma Philip, 56, discovered a stranger in the child’s room.
According to Philip’s statement to the police, the intruder demanded ₹1 crore and attacked her before stabbing Khan and another staff member.
Despite being confined temporarily, the assailant managed to escape, as captured on CCTV footage showing him exiting via the fire escape at 2:33 a.m.
The nanny reported hearing noises and initially assumed it was the actor’s wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan, checking on their son.
However, upon further inspection, she noticed a man emerging from the bathroom and heading toward the child’s bed. Authorities are using Philip’s account and CCTV evidence to investigate the case.
More than 40 hours after actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked in his Bandra residence, Mumbai police are yet to apprehend the suspect, believed to be a seasoned criminal.
Authorities suspect the individual deliberately changed his clothing to mislead investigators after fleeing the scene.
On Friday, an extensive search operation was launched, involving local police, the Crime Branch, and intelligence units. A man resembling the suspect was briefly detained but released after being cleared of involvement. Meanwhile, another CCTV recording revealed the accused had changed from a dark full-sleeve T-shirt into a light blue half-sleeve shirt near Lucky Junction after exiting the building.
Investigators believe the intruder entered the premises by climbing through a rear gate, avoiding cameras, and using the fire exit stairs. CCTV footage captured him ascending barefoot at 1:38 am. Officials suspect he accessed the actor’s home via a narrow bathroom shaft connected to the 11th floor.
During the confrontation, Saif and his family managed to lock the attacker in a room and fled to the upper floor. The suspect likely escaped using the same shaft and was later spotted on CCTV on the building’s sixth floor.
Police are reviewing additional footage, checking railway station cameras, and consulting informants and criminal databases for leads. Security at the building has come under scrutiny, with inadequate CCTV coverage and lax monitoring by guards.
Bhajan Singh, the rickshaw driver who rushed Saif to the hospital, recalled the actor’s dire condition. “He was covered in blood and struggling to walk. At the hospital entrance, he identified himself and requested immediate help,” said Singh.
