How much money was in BJP’s account before 2014, how much has it increased in 11 years? You will be surprised to know these figures – ..
BJP’s assets: The financial position of the Bharatiya Janata Party before and after 2014 reflects one of the biggest changes in Indian political financing. Being one of the many national parties with shared resources, the Bharatiya Janata Party has become India’s richest political party in just a decade. Data released by the Union for Democratic Reforms and official income declarations clearly show how rapidly the party’s income and assets have increased since it came to power at the Center in 2014.
Financial position of BJP before 2014 Lok Sabha elections
Wasn’t very strong. In the financial year 2013–14, the party had declared a total income of about Rs 674 crore. BJP’s total assets during this period were around Rs 781 crore. At that time the financial gap between BJP and other national parties like Congress was much less than today.
Rapid increase in income after coming to power:
BJP’s income has seen a rapid growth since it formed the central government in 2014. By the financial year 2022-23, the declared income of the party had reached about Rs 2,360 crore. This was an increase of more than 250 percent compared to earnings before 2014.
Election year and record breaking income:
The largest increase in BJP’s income occurs during election years. In the 2019-20 financial year, the party had declared its highest-ever income of Rs 3,623 crore. Recent revelations show that BJP’s income has increased to around Rs 4,340 crore in 2023-24.
There has been a tremendous increase in net worth in a decade.
Along with the increase in income, net worth has increased even more rapidly. The BJP’s total assets have increased from around Rs 781 crore in 2013-14 to more than Rs 7,052 crore by 2022-23. This nearly nine-fold increase shows that the party has consistently spent less than its income, resulting in huge surpluses being accumulated every year.
A comparison of 2013-14 and the next 11 years makes it clear that with BJP coming to political power, it has also transformed into a financial superpower. With an income growth of over 250% to 400% and assets of over Rs 7,000 crore, the party has completely changed the way political funding is done in India.
