The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) suffered a major disappointment on Monday. Their PSLV-C62 deviated from its planned path. This is the second setback for the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) in about 8 months. PSLV-C62 was intended to send a hyperspectral imaging satellite called EOS-N1 into space. It was developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) for strategic purposes. This satellite would enhance India’s surveillance capabilities, which would be beneficial for farming, urban mapping and environmental observation.

The mission failed due to technical problems in the upper stage of PSLV-C62. This not only caused a big blow to ISRO, but also caused huge loss to the Indian treasury. ISRO is one of the powerful agencies in the world, which has conducted many successful missions including Chandrayaan.
