Appearing “Away” or offline in Fortnite is your way of not making a statement about it. When you set your social status to Away, you still show up on your friends’ lists, but it doesn’t show that you are active on the platform and having some me-time. If you want to go full ghost mode, you can set your Party Joinability to “Invite Only.” This doesn’t technically hide your name from the list, but it stops people from randomly arriving in your lobby unannounced. If you have some challenges that you need or want to take up on your own, then this is a great way to do it. Also, this is just an excuse to take some time off from playing with your friends.
Steps to appear offline on Fortnite
If you want to appear offline on Fortnite, then these are the steps that you can follow.
Open the Sidebar
Start the process with this step, and you shall only take a few minutes. So, while you are in the Lobby, click on the Menu/Options button or press the touchpad to bring up your social menu.
Set Status to “Away”
Now, click on your profile icon at the very top. You’ll see your online status. If you have made up your mind, change it from “Online” to “Away”. Your name will stay on your friends’ lists, but it’ll have a yellow icon and not green, signaling you’re not available to play.
Adjust Party Joinability
This is the most important step, and here is where you can adjust the settings for real. In that same previous menu, you need to look for Party Joinability and set it to “Invite Only” or “Private.” This prevents friends from “teleporting” into your lobby without an invitation.
Turn off Social Notifications
The steps mentioned above will be enough to fix the issue that you want to fix. If you want zero distractions, you can go into your Settings, head to the Account and Privacy tab, and toggle “Social Notifications” to Off. This also stops any pop-ups or notifications from appearing on your screen repeatedly.
