The situation will be like May-June in March itself, if you want to buy AC then know which tonne will be best for your room.
The month of March has just begun, but in many cities the temperature is feeling as if the scorching heat of June has arrived. Due to strong sunlight and increasing heat, people are no longer getting much relief from fans. In such a situation, preparations to buy AC have started in many houses, because it may be difficult to survive without it in the coming months.
However, while buying an AC, people often take the decision just by looking at the brand or offer. Very few people pay attention to how many tons of AC will be right for their room. In such a situation, the question is how to choose the right AC according to the size of the room.
Why is it important to get AC according to the room?
- When people think about which AC they should get for their room, the easiest answer is that the capacity of the AC should be as per the need of the room. If a small AC is installed in the room, it will run continuously, yet the room will not cool down quickly. Due to this, the electricity bill will also increase and the life of the AC may also get reduced.
- On the other hand, if an AC with very high capacity is installed, it will cool quickly, but the humidity of the room will not reduce properly, due to which the room may feel sticky even though it is cool.
- Therefore, getting the right AC is not only important for comfort but it also saves electricity and makes the machine work properly for a long time.
What things should be kept in mind while choosing the right AC?
While deciding the size of AC, not only the area of the room is considered, but some other things are also important.
- what is the height of the ceiling of the room
- How many people usually stay in the room
- How many windows are there in the room and do they get direct sunlight
- What is the weather like in your city (humid or dry)
- How many electronic devices are there in the room that produce heat
- Keeping all these things in mind, the capacity of the AC is decided.
How to measure room size?
First of all measure the length and width of your room in feet. After this multiply both of them together. With this the total area (square feet) of the room will be known.
For example, if the width of the room is 12 feet and length is 15 feet, then: 12 × 15 = 180 square feet.
That means the size of the room is 180 square feet. On this basis the capacity of AC is decided.
How to calculate ton of AC?
The cooling capacity of AC is measured in BTU (British Thermal Units) or tons. Generally, 1 ton AC = 12,000 BTU.
1. On the basis of area
As a general rule, every 1 square feet of space requires approximately 120 BTU of cooling capacity.
BTU = room area × 120
2. Based on volume
If the height of the ceiling of the room is different, then tones can also be calculated on the basis of volume. For this, multiply the length, width and height of the room and then divide it by 1000.
Ton = Length × Width × Height ÷ 1000
How many tons of AC to buy according to the size of the room?
There is also a general guideline for choosing an AC, which makes it easy to guess.
- Room up to 120 square feet – approximately 1 Ton AC
- Room of 150 to 200 square feet – approximately 1.5 to 1.8 Ton AC
- Large room of 250 to 300 square feet – around 2 to 3 Ton AC
- These rules apply to both split AC and window AC, although split ACs are generally considered quieter and provide better cooling.
Why is it beneficial to choose the right AC?
If the right type of AC is chosen according to the room, then the room gets cooled quickly and better. Along with this, power consumption is also less and AC works without any problem for a long time. Therefore, whenever you go to buy a new AC, first measure the size of your room and then get a correct estimate of the cooling capacity. By choosing the right AC, you will get relief from the heat and will also be able to control your electricity expenses.
