How to get Dratini in FireRed?

If you want to get Dratini in Pokémon FireRed? Follow the guide to know how you can get this amazing Pokémon in the game and improve your collection. So, let’s get started and see how we can unlock and have this Pokémon.

About Dratini

Dratini is a Pokémon that comes with surprises. It is basically the “underdog” of the original 151 Pokémon and is highly popular for the same reason. It starts off as a sleek, adorable blue sea serpent that looks totally harmless. But one shouldn’t get fooled by it, as it’s actually the only “pseudo-legendary” line in the Kanto region. It’s famous for being incredibly rare and is usually hiding in deep water or behind high price tags at the Game Corner. You heard it! If you want to purchase it, you have to make a huge payment. Training one of them becomes a huge test of patience. Why? This is because it takes so long to level up. However, you can hold your spirits knowing that the payoff is huge. Once it hits level 30 and becomes Dragonair, and eventually Dragonite at level 55, you will ultimately get one of the strongest powerhouses in the game. It’s a Pokémon that makes you work a lot, but gets to be quite rewarding towards the end.

Steps to get Dratini in FireRed

If you want to get yourself a Dratini in Pokémon FireRed, then these are the steps that you can follow.

The “Guaranteed” Method

To start this, you can head to Celadon City. In the building right next to the Game Corner, you can simply buy a Dratini for 2,800 coins. This is a huge number, we get it. And if you don’t feel like playing slots, you can talk to the guy at the counter and buy the coins for 56,000 PokéDollars. Again, we understand that it’s pricey, but it’s the only way to guarantee you actually get one. And it is also quick and doesn’t make you wait for long.

The Safari Zone Hunt

If you think you can be lucky, go to Fuchsia City and enter the Safari Zone. You can find Dratini by fishing in any of the ponds. Hard, but doable.

Get the Super Rod First

To begin the process, you can’t just use any old rod. You need the Super Rod from the fisherman on Route 12. He is the guy in the house south of Lavender Town and is important to you.

The Catching Method

Remember that Dratini has roughly a 15% encounter rate with the Super Rod. Once you get your hook into one, the Safari Zone does its work. Throwing Bait makes it less likely to run but harder to catch. While throwing a Rock makes it easier to catch, it is also much more likely to flee. No easy way out, isn’t it? However, you can still try to do it and be patient about it. If you think you can play well, just rapidly throw a Safari Ball and wait for the next one to happen.
