A dash of taste even during fasting! Make soft and light sago idli at home

Sabudana, also known as the superfood of fasting, is full of energy. When made into idli by mixing it with curd and mild spices, it makes a healthy and delicious breakfast. Be it children or adults, everyone likes its soft and spongy texture.

  • 1 cup sago
  • 1/2 cup curd (whipped)
  • 1/2 cup roasted peanut powder
  • 1-2 green chillies (finely chopped)
  • 1 tsp ginger (grated)
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped coriander
  • rock salt as per taste
  • 1 tsp eno or 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • A little oil to grease the idli mold

How to make Sabudana Idli

Sabudana Idli is a delicious and nutrition rich dish. To prepare this, first wash the sago with clean water 2-3 times. Now add so much water and soak it for 4-5 hours or overnight that the water remains just till the top. After soaking, the sago will look soft and puffy. If there is excess water, filter it.

Put the soaked sago in a large bowl. Add whipped curd and peanut powder to it. Now add green chilli, ginger, cumin, green coriander and rock salt and mix well. If the batter seems too thick, you can add a little water. Keep in mind that the batter should be medium thick like idli.

Just before making idli, add Eno or baking soda and mix gently. This will make the idli puffy and spongy. Grease the idli mold with a little oil. Now fill the prepared batter in the moulds. Heat water in a steamer or cooker, place the idli stand and steam for 10-12 minutes. Keep the gas on medium flame.

Check after 10 minutes by inserting a toothpick. If it comes out clean then the idli is ready. Switch off the gas and take out the idli after 2-3 minutes. Serve hot sago idli with coconut chutney or green coriander chutney. If you wish, you can also serve it with a little seasoning.
