How will humans succeed in the era of AI? UAE’s AI Minister showed the way

Dubai . United Arab Emirates (UAE) AI Minister Omar Sultan Al Olama has given a strict warning regarding technology and human future. He said that as Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming more powerful, it will no longer be enough to have deep expertise (hyper-specialization) in just one area. Al Olama said in clear words that AI will achieve the goal before us… If you have to be hyper-specialized in a particular area, AI can do it better than us. The only way for you to be successful is to have breadth of knowledge.

Al Olama reiterated several times in Nikhil Kamath’s podcast that the biggest danger to humans is excessive specialization in a single skill. According to him, AI systems are naturally designed to outperform humans in narrow, repetitive or highly technical tasks. To remain relevant, people have to think and work in different areas. During this, he especially advised the youth not to limit the information to just one area, but try to understand it on a broader level.

  • In the conversation he mentioned a famous idiom. He said that people often say that no one is a jack of all trades, but in most cases he is better than a jack of all trades. He said that if you have knowledge and skills of many different subjects across a very broad scope, you will always remain relevant regardless of technology, geography or time.

The UAE minister also spoke on how societies should prioritize technology. He stressed that AI should always be given second priority after daily human needs. During the conversation, he also narrated an interesting anecdote related to his early political career. He said that during my honeymoon in Tokyo, on the third day, I was made the Minister of Artificial Intelligence at the age of 27.
