Huang Xiaoming denies selling two homes to repay $140M gambling debt
Chinese actor Huang Xiaoming has dismissed claims that he lost 1 billion yuan (US$140 million) gambling overseas and was forced to sell property to cover the debt.
Huang talked about rumors that he lost billions of yuan gambling in Macau during an episode of a reality show on Feb. 21, according to Cinema Online.
He said the claims were fabricated by AI and contained exaggerated, illogical details. He said that although the story was implausible, some people still believed it, adding that he was truly heartbroken at the time.

He said AI-generated stories today are often a mix of truth and falsehood and can target specific individuals. When such content spreads widely, it can cause serious harm, and the public should be cautious about chaotic information created by AI, he added.
The rumor, originated on Mar. 10, 2025, alleged that a high-profile celebrity gambled for seven days straight in Macau and lost about one billion yuan, forcing him to mortgage three homes and a private jet to repay debts, the Straits Times said.
Police later detained a man surnamed Xu in connection with the case. He admitted to using AI to create false information and was fined and placed in administrative detention for eight days.
Huang, 47, is one of China’s most prominent actors, known for leading roles in television dramas such as “The Return of the Condor Heroes,” “Shanghai Bund,” and “Summer’s Desire.”
He and Angelababy, 35, publicly dated from 2014, married in 2015, and welcomed a son in 2017. The couple announced their divorce on Jan. 28, 2022.
Huang later dated Ye Ke. They have since separated and share one child.
