Hubballi to host historic Ranji Trophy Final between Karnataka and Jammu & Kashmir

NEW DELHI: The upcoming Ranji Trophy final between Karnataka cricket team and Jammu and Kashmir cricket team will be staged at the KSCA Stadium in Rajnagar, Hubballi, from February 24.

Karnataka have piled up a massive overall lead of 802 runs against Uttarakhand cricket team in Lucknow at stumps on the fourth and penultimate day of their semifinal.

Jammu and Kashmir booked their maiden Ranji Trophy final berth with a six-wicket win over Bengal cricket team in Kalyani on Wednesday.

“Karnataka vs Jammu and Kashmir, five days final from February 24 is to be played in KSCA Stadium, Rajnagar, Hubballi,” a Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) official told PTI on condition of anonymity.

The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has received a conditional clearance from the Karnataka state cabinet to host domestic, IPL and international matches after remaining unused since June 4 last year.

However, the KSCA management appears keen to ensure a smooth experience during the Ranji title clash while continuing with the security upgrade work at the Chinnaswamy as mandated by various government departments.

KSCA’s push to expand cricket beyond urban centers

Staging the summit clash in Hubballi, a key center away from the state capital, is also in line with KSCA president Venkatesh Prasad’s vision of spreading the game to different parts of Karnataka.

Upon assuming office as KSCA chief, Prasad had underlined his commitment to strengthening cricket infrastructure across the state, with an emphasis on developing high-quality facilities outside major urban hubs.

Living up to that promise, Prasad and his team recently toured several centers across Karnataka to review and evaluate the development work required at those venues.
