Huge jump in LPG cylinder prices, prices increased to ₹993 from May 1
The month of May has brought a shock of inflation for the middle class and businessmen. Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have released new prices of LPG gas cylinders from May 1, 2026. Amidst the fluctuations in the prices of crude oil in the international market and the ongoing geopolitical tension in West Asia, the prices of commercial gas cylinders have been increased by a historic increase of ₹ 993. However, it is a matter of relief that the prices of domestic LPG have been kept stable for the time being.
‘Fire’ in commercial cylinder prices, restaurants and dhabas will be costlier
Due to increase of ₹ 993 in the price of 19 kg commercial gas cylinder used in hotels, restaurants and weddings, its price in Delhi has now become ₹ 3,071.50. This is one of the biggest increases in recent years. Apart from this, the price of small commercial cylinder of 5 kg has also been increased by ₹ 261. Experts believe that after this increase, eating out and the services of confectioners may become expensive.

While the prices of commercial cylinders are skyrocketing, there is relief news for domestic LPG customers. There has been no change in the prices of 14.2 kg domestic cylinder. In Delhi it still remains at ₹913.00. It had seen an increase of ₹ 60 in March 2026, but by keeping it stable in the beginning of May, the government has saved the common man’s kitchen budget from getting spoiled.

New rules for booking and delivery came into effect from May
Apart from the prices, there has also been a major change in the booking rules from May 1, 2026. Now customers in urban areas will be able to book another cylinder only after 25 days instead of 21 days. For rural areas this limit has been increased to 45 days. Also, now it will be mandatory to provide the OTP (Delivery Authentication Code) received on your registered mobile number at the time of delivery of the cylinder, without it the delivery will not be given.
Why are gas prices increasing?
According to oil companies, the supply chain has been affected due to the West Asia crisis, due to which international fuel prices have increased by 50%. Since India imports a large part of its requirement, the volatility in the global market has had a direct impact on commercial gas. At present, the government is providing security cover to the public by controlling the subsidy and prices of domestic cylinders.
