TMC MLA Humayun Kabir announced the formation of a new party
New Delhi. Humayun Kabir, MLA from Murshidabad, West Bengal, has decided to form a new party challenging TMC. He is planning to field his candidates on 135 seats in the upcoming elections and form an alliance with various parties. Kabir’s political journey spans more than two decades, and he has been active in various parties.
Humayun Kabir’s property information
According to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), Humayun Kabir’s assets are worth approximately Rs 3 crore 7 lakh 42 thousand 300, which includes movable property worth Rs 96 lakh 75 thousand 930 and immovable property worth Rs 2 crore 10 lakh 66 thousand 370. These figures have been taken from the affidavit filed in the 2021 assembly elections. He had also shared information about a Tata Storm Safari car and 80 grams of gold in this affidavit.
Humayun Kabir’s political journey
Humayun Kabir started his career with the Congress Party, and also participated in Panchayat elections. After joining TMC in 2012, he also held the post of minister. However, he was removed from the post after losing the Reginanagar assembly by-election. Kabir had made allegations against TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee in 2015, due to which he was expelled from the party for six years. After this, he stayed in Samajwadi Party and then BJP for some time. In 2020 he again returned to TMC.
Alliances and electoral strategy
Kabir has recently expressed his intention to form a new secular alliance. He has indicated positive talks with the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). Kabir has also planned to field his candidates on 135 seats along with a helicopter tour in Murshidabad, Malda, Nadia and 24 Parganas districts.
Challenged to Mamta Banerjee
Humayun Kabir directly challenged Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and said that she will not be able to return to the post of Chief Minister in the next assembly elections. Kabir said, ‘The Chief Minister has to be a former Chief Minister. She will not be the Chief Minister again in 2026. Along with this, he also expressed his intention to resign from TMC.
