Humayun Kabir’s new party enters West Bengal election field

Kolkata. Humayun Kabir has entered the politics of West Bengal through his new political party ‘Aam Janata Unnayan Party’. He clearly claims that his party will field candidates on 182 seats in the assembly elections, and will also field candidates against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Direct contest on Bhawanipur seat

Kabir informed that his party will field Poonam Begum, who is a non-Bengali Muslim, against Mamata Banerjee in the key Bhawanipur seat of South Kolkata. On this seat, Mamata Banerjee will be competing with BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, which may generate more interest in the electoral struggle.

Fight on 182 seats in elections

Kabir told in a press conference that his party will contest elections on 182 seats in the state. He also informed that the first list of candidates has already been released for Malda and Murshidabad districts, while the full list is expected to be revealed soon.

Focus on Muslim vote bank

Political analysts believe that the main objective of fielding Muslim candidates in Bhawanipur is to make a dent in the minority vote bank of Trinamool Congress. However, its real impact will be evident only in the election results.

Discussion on Babri Masjid plan

Humayun Kabir has also been in the news in recent months regarding the plan to build ‘Babri Masjid’ in Murshidabad. Political uproar has already started in the state on this issue.

List of candidates and campaign

The party has fielded several candidates from different areas, including Malda, Murshidabad and East Burdwan. Kabir himself will contest from Rezinagar and Naoda seats of Murshidabad, while he has left his old bastion Bharatpur.

This step of Humayun Kabir’s new party can create a new stir in the political situation of West Bengal. Whereas the real challenge will be whether his party will be able to achieve success in minority votes or not.
