Humayun Kabir’s sharp attack on Mamta’s defeat: Said – ‘Didi’ has looted in 15 years as much as the British did not loot in 200 years.
These days the game of checkmate is at its peak in the politics of West Bengal. Humayun Kabir, who was once very close to Trinamool Congress (TMC), has now opened a front against his former party and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. After the election results in the state, Kabir not only expressed happiness over the defeat of TMC, but also compared the Mamata government with the British Raj in a very harsh tone. His statement has created a new storm in the political circles of Bengal.
In fact, while talking to the media, Humayun Kabir clearly said that the people of Bengal did what had to happen. He alleged that the public has responded to the game of corruption that was going on in the state for the last one and a half decade by voting for it. This attack of Kabir is also in the news because he was once an important commander of TMC, but now he has emerged as the biggest critic of the party.
200 years of British vs 15 years of Didi
In his statement, Humayun Kabir made a comparison regarding corruption, which has made the TMC camp uncomfortable. He said, “The British looted this country for almost 200 years, but what has happened in Bengal within the last 15 years has left even the loot of the British behind. The way the state was harmed economically and socially was worrying.”
Kabir did not stop here, he also congratulated the people of Bengal for showing TMC the way out of the threshold of power. According to him, this victory is not of any particular party but of those people who were being tortured at the hands of the ‘system’ for the last many years. Experts believe that this statement of Kabir can further polarize the politics of Bengal in the coming days.
The matter was spoiled by the statement about Babri Masjid
The bitterness in the relationship between Humayun Kabir and Mamata Banerjee did not start suddenly. Its roots lie in the controversial statement when Kabir had announced to build Babri Masjid in Murshidabad. This statement made headlines not only in the state but across the country. Initially the TMC leadership kept silence on this, but when the opposition parties made it a weapon of polarization, Mamata Banerjee took a tough stance and showed Kabir the way out of the party.
It is being told that that statement of Kabir had completely changed the electoral mathematics in many areas of Bengal. After his expulsion from the party, he parted ways and started searching for new political ground. In this sequence, he formed his own party and later joined hands with Asaduddin Owaisi’s party AIMIM. However, this alliance also could not last long.
Victory on two seats and allegations of collusion with BJP
Humayun Kabir’s journey has been full of controversies and claims. During the elections, a video of him went viral on social media, in which he was accused of secretly colluding with the BJP. As soon as this video surfaced, AIMIM distanced itself from him and the alliance broke. However, even today Kabir rejects those allegations outright and calls the video ‘fake’.
At present, Humayun Kabir claims that he has won two seats. He says, “I have the victory certificates of both the seats. Now I have to decide which assembly constituency I will continue to represent and which seat I will resign from.” Political analysts say that Humayun Kabir’s victory and his tough attitude indicate that in Bengal it is no longer just a fight between ‘Didi’ and ‘Dada’, but players from the third and fourth front are also making their strong presence felt.
In today’s changing circumstances, the emergence of leaders like Humayun Kabir shows that the people of Bengal are now looking for alternatives other than traditional faces. Now it remains to be seen what is the official stand of TMC on these sharp attacks of Kabir and what new turn the politics of Bengal takes in the coming days.
