Shabnam alleges that she was sent to Oman with the promise of getting a job as a housemaid, but after reaching there, she was made to work in many houses for a long time and was neither given a fixed salary nor given proper living arrangements.

Currently, Shabnam Begum is living in the Indian Embassy in Muscat and is seeking help to return to India. His family met Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has been appealed to intervene and ensure their safe return and to take action against the recruitment agent who sent them to Oman.

1. According to the appeal, Shabnam Begum had reached Muscat, Oman on 26 March 2026. It is alleged that a local recruitment agent had assured her of a job as a domestic help and a salary of 200 Omani Rials every month.

2. The family claims that after reaching Oman, his employer made him work in not one but several houses. It is alleged that he was made to work for 12 to 15 hours daily.

3. It has been said in the appeal that they were neither given adequate food nor proper living arrangements were made. The family alleges that they were not paid any salary for four consecutive months.

4. Shabnam Begum allegedly ran away from her employer after being fed up with the continuous exploitation. After this she took shelter in the Indian Embassy in Muscat, where she is currently waiting for help.

5. Shabnam Begum’s family appealed to Foreign Minister S. Has appealed to Jaishankar to ensure his safety. The family has given instructions to the Indian Embassy and demanded Shabnam’s return to Hyderabad as soon as possible.
