Hyundai and Kia Hybrid SUVs 2026: New 7-Seater Models with 25 kmpl Mileage Coming to India, Check Launch Date

Upcoming 7-Seater Hybrid SUVs India: The Indian automobile market is about to witness a new combination of mileage and power. According to media reports, Hyundai and Kia are preparing to launch new SUVs with strong hybrid technology to strengthen their presence in India’s premium 7-seater segment.

While Kia is expected to launch a new SUV codenamed MQ4i, based on its globally successful Sorento, by the end of this year, Hyundai is working on an all-new hybrid SUV codenamed Ni1i, which will fill the gap between the Alcazar and Tucson. These vehicles will compete directly with leading SUVs like the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Safari, which currently dominate the market with diesel engines.

Kia Sorento

Kia India is ready to make a big splash in the premium market with its new 7-seater SUV. This car will be based on the platform of the globally-sold Kia Sorento, which was recently spotted testing on Indian roads. In terms of design, this Sorento-based SUV will feature vertically mounted LED headlights and sleek 19-inch alloy wheels with thin LED DRL strips. Its boxy stance and signature Tiger Nose grille give it a strong road presence.

Regarding the engine, the Sorento is powered by a 1.6-liter turbo-petrol hybrid engine globally, but to keep its price in check in India, the company may offer a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol hybrid setup. This technology will not only provide a smooth driving experience but also deliver a mileage of 22 to 25 kmpl, which is incredible for a car of this size.

Hyundai Ni1i

Hyundai’s upcoming SUV, codenamed Ni1i, will be an excellent option for customers who want more space than the Alcazar and a premium feel like the Tucson. According to reports, this car is likely to be based on the long-wheelbase version of the Tucson sold in China, measuring around 4680 mm in length. This size puts it directly on par with the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV 7XO.

Its large wheelbase will ensure ample legroom for third-row passengers, often a major drawback in cars in this segment. Hyundai will introduce its first strong hybrid system, where the company could pair its existing 1.5-liter petrol engine with an electric motor and battery pack. This move will provide strong competition to players like the Toyota Innova Hycross and offer a clean alternative to diesel engines.

Launch Timeline and Tough Competition

These two upcoming hybrid SUVs from Hyundai and Kia will compete not only with existing diesel giants but also with new 7-seater hybrid cars from Maruti and Toyota in the future. Hyundai plans to produce this new SUV at its new Talegaon plant near Pune, which will help keep costs low.

While the official launch of these vehicles is expected in late 2026 or early 2027, information about their testing and features is already creating a buzz in the auto market. These cars will be equipped with high-tech features like ADAS Level 2 and panoramic sunroof, along with premium sound systems and ventilated seats, making them a moving palace.
