Hyundai becomes the first car manufacturer in India to adopt AGM battery technology

Hyundai Motor India has announced the addition of Made-in-India AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) battery technology to its domestic product line-up. This technology has been developed by Amaron and will be used as SLI (Starting, Lighting, Ignition) battery. This step has been taken under the existing supply agreement between Hyundai and Amara Raja Energy & Mobility.

Hyundai aims to install these AGM batteries in its models by the fourth quarter of financial year 2025 (Q4 FY25). Hyundai will become the first automotive company in India to adopt this technology.

AGM Battery: Why is it special?

Made-in-India AGM batteries are proven to be 150% more durable than conventional CMF (Complete Maintenance-Free) batteries. Their main features are.

Fast charging and long lifespan: AGM batteries charge quickly and have a long life.
Low maintenance and high power efficiency: They require minimum maintenance and are more energy efficient.
Suitable for ISG system: AGM batteries are ideal for vehicles equipped with Idle Stop and Go systems.
better energy efficiency: Capable of handling higher electrical loads of modern vehicles.
wide temperature operation:Ability to work in different temperatures.

Big benefits for India

localization: Local manufacturing of AGM batteries will not only reduce costs but will also eliminate dependence on imports.
positive impact on the environment: Local production will reduce carbon footprint.
job creation: Local manufacturing of this technology will create new employment opportunities.
better performance: Through AGM batteries, Hyundai will introduce new generation technology in its vehicles with better range, performance and lower emissions.

Global Recognition and Testing

Hyundai has tested AGM batteries at its R&D center in Namyang, South Korea. In testing, these batteries not only met all the performance parameters, but also proved to be compliant with Indian emission standards.

Hyundai's forward-looking move

This initiative will not only provide Hyundai with technological leadership in the Indian market, but will also strengthen the Made-in-India initiative. AGM batteries can prove to be a milestone for the next generation of products.

This step by Hyundai is indicative of promoting sustainability, efficiency and innovation in the Indian automobile industry.
