Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz and Tesla recalled more than 340,000 vehicles due to defects

South Korea South Korea: Hyundai Motor, Kia, Mercedes-Benz Korea and Tesla Korea have announced voluntary recalls of more than 343,000 vehicles due to defective components, according to South Korea's Transportation Ministry. The ministry said on Thursday the increase in recalls was mainly due to manufacturing defects in several popular models from Hyundai and Kia, with the latest figures up from 1.69 million units recalled last year. The number of vehicles recalled in South Korea reached a record high last year, with 5.12 million units across 1,684 models recalled, according to the Korea Road Traffic Authority.

Hyundai Motor Co and Kia Corp accounted for 4.07 million of these recalls – about 79.2 percent of the total. According to the information, Hyundai Motor will recall 141,125 units of two models including Porter II Electric due to battery sensor design defect. An additional 19,830 units of the Nexo will be recalled to fix a fault in the emergency light switch, Yonhap news agency reports.

Kia Corp is recalling 89,598 units of the Sorento Hybrid and one other model due to a software issue. Mercedes-Benz Korea has launched a recall for 4,068 units of two models, including the S580 4MATIC, to fix an engine control unit software defect. Tesla Korea is fixing problems with 2,425 units of the Model Y and another model caused by software errors.
