‘I am not in any party, offers from 6 parties’, Congress could not convince Bhupen?

Former Congress leader Bhupen Kumar Bora had resigned from the party on Monday. Within a few hours, leaders of the state unit of Congress reached his house. Assam Congress in-charge Bhanwar Jitendra Singh said that Bhupen Bora has withdrawn his resignation and Rahul Gandhi has also spoken to him. Once it seemed that the matter was settled and Bhupen agreed to the sack. Now on Tuesday, Bhupen Bora has said that he is not in any party and he has offers from 6 political parties. On Monday itself, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had also invited Bhupen to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Himanta says that Bhupen Bora has also invited him to his house.

Earlier, on Monday, Bhupen Bora had written a letter to Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge that he was not being allowed to work in his own way. Interestingly, Congress made Gaurav Gogoi the State Congress President only after removing Bhupen Bora. On Monday, Gaurav Gogoi also reached Bhupen Bora’s house. On this occasion, he described Bhupen Bora as the heritage of Congress and said that if he feels bad about anything, he (Gaurav Gogoi) apologizes to Bhupen. After this, I once thought that everything was fine but now things seem to have changed.

What did Bhupen Bora say now?

Bhupen Bora, who had offered to resign just before the elections, has now said, ‘Yesterday our Nagaon MPs Pradyut Bordoloi and Debabrata Saikia came to my house. In front of them, I had told all the leaders that you read my resignation and if these two leaders accept that I am wrong and this will not happen in future, then I will withdraw my resignation. This morning Pradyut da called me and I am waiting. I will wait all day today. If these two leaders can convince me then I will withdraw my resignation. However, a senior AICC leader messaged me and I replied to him that you can love this man, hate him but you cannot ignore him.

He further said, ‘It is no longer APCC. Now it is APCC(R). I am not ready to work in APCC(R). At present it is not APCC. You analyze it. There is a conflict going on in the minds of Congress leaders whether they will remain in APCC (R) or not. The party high command has to take a decision and they have to convince the people that this is the real APCC.

Which party will Bhupen go to?

On the question of joining BJP, Bhupen Bora has said, ‘Till date I have not discussed with any party whether I will join it or not. I have received offers from 6 political parties. No BJP leader or MP has contacted me. Yesterday a senior journalist met me and said that the Chief Minister wanted to meet me. I said okay, I am not a member of any party.

He further said, ‘I am preparing to contest elections from Ronganadi because it is my birthplace. Before this, I was MLA from Bihpuria twice. I can contest from both these seats from anywhere. My 4 political advisors are coming from Hyderabad and Delhi. I will take a decision by tonight. Only after talking to my colleagues will I decide what to do next.
