‘I am surprised to see India’s development’: Sundar Pichai announced $15 billion AI hub at India AI Impact Summit, Visakhapatnam will become global center

New Delhi: Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai praised India’s rapidly growing digital power at the India AI Impact Summit 2026. He said that every time he comes to India, the pace of change here astonishes him. In his address, delivered in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries, Pichai recalled memories of his student days.

He told that while traveling by Coromandel Express from Chennai to study at IIT Kharagpur, he used to pass through Visakhapatnam. At that time the city was a quiet, promising coastal area but limited in development. Today, the same Visakhapatnam is becoming the main center of Google’s huge infrastructure investment of $15 billion in India.

Full-stack AI hub to be built in Visakhapatnam

Pichai announced that Google is setting up a full-stack Artificial Intelligence hub here. The hub will be equipped with gigawatt-level computing capacity and will also include a new international subsea cable gateway. This investment will create jobs across the country, bring cutting-edge AI technology to businesses and the general public, and launch new subsea cable routes that will strengthen US-India connectivity.

The power of AI reaches farmers

Referring to Google’s collaboration with the Indian government, Pichai said that last summer, AI-based weather forecasts were delivered to millions of farmers for the first time. This was possible with the help of NeuralGCM model, which strengthened the agriculture sector by giving accurate predictions.

Emphasis on language inclusion and responsible AI

He described linguistic inclusion as one of the big goals of AI. Giving an example, he said that in Ghana, Google is collaborating with local universities and NGOs to develop research and open-source tools in more than 20 African languages. Pichai stressed that bold steps will have to be taken in AI to address health, education, economic opportunity and social challenges, but it will have to be ensured that the benefits of the technology reach every section equally.

This address by Pichai is a strong message towards responsible adoption of AI and making India a global AI leader. This big investment by Google is being considered as a step to take India’s digital economy to new heights.
