“I can’t even think in my dream that India would lose a Test series against New Zealand”: Atul Wassan

Former cricketer Atul Wassan feels bad for Team India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, after the team’s shocking Test series defeat against New Zealand. The Kiwis clinched a 113-run victory over the hosts in the second Test in Pune on Saturday, October 26.

The visitors are ahead by 2-0, with the last contest scheduled for November 1 in Mumbai.

India have been defeated for the first time in a home Test series since 2012. India National Cricket Team won 18 Test series in that time, but Tom Latham’s side ended the streak.

“I feel sorry for Gautam Gambhir for becoming the first head coach to lose a Test series after 12 years and that too against a rival that couldn’t challenge Sri Lanka in the sub-continent conditions. We were talking about winning the WTC final and now we stand exposed. I can’t believe that we lost within three days,” he told PTI.

India were bowled out for 46 in the first innings of the opening Test in Bengaluru, their lowest total at home. Although Rohit’s team posted 462 runs in the second innings, the target of 107 runs never challenged the Kiwis as they won the match by 8 wickets.

In the second Test, New Zealand amassed 259 and bowled out Indis for 156. They put on 255 in the second, and the target of 359 proved too much for the Men in Blue, as they were restricted to 245, giving New Zealand a 113-run win.

Atul said that he never thought that India would concede a Test series to New Zealand. “I can’t point fingers at one or two things, but the defeat is shocking. I can’t even think in my dream that India would lose to New Zealand in a Test series. I don’t know what went wrong for the hosts,” he added.
