“I didn’t expect India to win so easily”: Ex-player opines on first T20I against England at Eden Gardens
India were barely tested by England in the first T20I at the Eden Gardens and the hosts registered a seven-wicket win in just 12.5 overs. The bowlers did a magnificent job by restricting the English side to a score of 132 runs, and then Abhishek Sharma single-handedly put the rivals out of the contest. Former player Parthiv Patel was backing the Men in Blue to win the match, but not so comprehensively.
Varun Chakravarthy was adjudged the Player of the Match for taking three wickets, and he was supported by Arshdeep Singh, Axar Patel, and Hardik Pandya, who picked up two scalps each, respectively.
“I didn’t expect India to win so easily. Both sides are strong, but England didn’t bat well, but India did. The pitch didn’t behave as we were expecting. There will be days when you will get out for 130 runs in a T20I, and it was such a day for England.
“However, all is not lost for them as there are still four matches left, and there is plenty to play for in the series. England have talent and skills to bounce back,” he said on Star Sports.
The two teams will now travel to Chennai for the second T20I on January 26. India are expected to retain the same Playing XI for the upcoming clash.
