I didn’t expect this much negative reviews
Director Shankar has opened up on the failure of Indian 2. Speaking during the promotions of his upcoming film Game Changersthe filmmaker said that he did not expect the negative reviews for the Kamal Haasan-starrer, but expressed hope on the third installment Indian 3 which he confirmed will release in theatres.
The action thriller, which was released in July this year, had Kamal Haasan reprising his role as Senapathy from the first part which was released in 1996. He starred alongside Siddharth, SJ Suryah, Rakul Preet Singh, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Vivek, Bobby Simha, Nedumudi Venu, and Gulshan Grover, among others. Despite its massive scale, the film was received poorly from audience which was followed by incessant trolling on social media. “But that’s okay. I’m now focused on delivering better work with Game Changer and Indian 3,” he said, in an interview with Vikatan.
The director said, “I tried to convey a good thought. That way, I am happy. ‘If the house is clean, then the nation will be clean’ is a wonderful and necessary thought. Although it is a question of how it can be practically implemented, it is still important.”
He said that the film had an impact on the public as a woman engineer from a corporation in Telangana was caught on video collecting bribes by her husband. “They called it the ‘Indian 2‘ effect. What we thought of is happening right? I am happy,” he said, while also narrating another incident where an auto driver’s son took his father to the police station as he snatched a gold chain from a woman who was riding with him.
Dismissing speculations on Indian 3‘s release on OTT, the Gentleman filmmaker confirmed that the third film will hit theatres.
Speaking about his collaboration with Ram Charan, he shared, “I am completely satisfied with the way Game Changer has turned out. This is a lifetime character for Charan. It will be a racy movie filled with a brilliant screenplay.”
The film Game Changerstarring Ram Charan and Kiara Advani in the lead roles, is based on a story narrated by Karthik Subbaraj. The political action drama focuses on a righteous IAS officer who sets out to tackle the corrupt political system. The film, which also has SJ Suryah, Srikanth, Anjali, Samuthirakani, Jayaram, and many more in key roles, is set to be released in theatres on January 10, 2025 during the festive occasion of Sankranti.
