Axar Patel don’t like Impact Player Rule Before the start of IPL 2026, Delhi Capitals captain Akshar Patel has joined those players who have criticized the impact player rule in the league. “I don’t like it,” Axar Patel said simply at the IPL pre-season press conference, insisting that it hurts the development of players like him. Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya have also spoken against the ‘Impact Player’ rule. This rule allows teams to replace any player from the playing XI with one of the five substitute players on the list at any time in the match. It was launched in 2023 and will remain in place until at least 2027.
“I don’t like this rule because I am an all-rounder myself. Earlier we used to pick an all-rounder for this role (batting and bowling). Now the team management picks a particular batsman or bowler; they say, ‘Why do we need an all-rounder?'” He added, “Being an all-rounder myself. As a matter of fact, I don’t like it, but at the same time, rules are rules, we have to follow them, but personally, I don’t like it.”
Earlier in 2024, former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma had said regarding the impact player rule that he does not like this strategic rule. He had said that this hinders the development of all-rounders in Indian cricket. After this, 2025 Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya had said that it has become very difficult to select an all-rounder in the team unless he performs equally well with both bat and ball.
