‘I have been out for two years…’ Ishan Kishan jokingly expressed his pain

Before the Indian team was announced for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, no one expected that Ishan Kishan would get a place. Ishaan was out of Team India for two years. The board and management were unhappy with him for taking a break between the South Africa tour at the end of 2023. However, Ishan Kishan, with his explosive performance in domestic cricket, forced the selectors to look at him as well.

Just before the T20 World Cup team was selected, Ishaan made Jharkhand the champion by scoring a century in the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and strengthened his claim. Ultimately his hard work bore fruit and he was selected for the T20 World Cup and T20 series against New Zealand. Ishaan confirmed his place in the playing XI by batting brilliantly in the New Zealand series and then played an important role in helping the team win the T20 World Cup title.

Ishaan’s spilled pain

Ishaan was the second highest run scorer for India. He scored 317 runs in 9 matches at a strike rate of 193.29. Ishaan scored these runs while opening and playing at number-3. After playing a blazing inning of 54 runs in 25 balls in the final against New Zealand on Sunday, Ishaan jokingly expressed his pain of being out of action for two years in the press conference.

Actually, he was answering the questions of journalists along with Abhishek Sharma. Meanwhile, a journalist asked, how do you overcome bad times? Common people also face problems in their lives, what will be the message for them? To answer this question, Abhishek Sharma picked up the mic and said that he can give a better answer, because he was going through a bad phase for the last one month. Then Ishaan said that I can also answer this. Ishaan jokingly said to Abhishek, ‘Your form was lost for a month. I have been out for two years.

What did Abhishek say in response to the question?

Answering the journalist’s question, Abhishek said, ‘One thing that matters a lot is how is your company? If there are people around you to make you better, who are happy for you. If you as a person have achieved that thing, because I felt like when my matches were not going well or I was not able to contribute but everyone was thinking so much about me and was so happy that he would do it.

He further said, ‘None of the players, coaches or support staff I met had a doubt on their face, rather there was a doubt inside me that why is it not happening… it is not happening like this but I think the company matters a lot as to who is around you. Who is motivating you, whether he believes in you at that time or not. This is the thing that matters most to me. This happens in everyone’s life. It is like this not only in cricket but also in life.

What did Ishaan say?

In response to this question, Ishaan said, ‘No matter how bad your time is, you have to trust yourself. If you doubt yourself, you will not be able to do well on the field, but I believe that when you work hard and support others in bad times, it helps you later.

He further said, ‘When I had to go to domestic cricket, I decided to focus on myself and also take the team forward because individual success does not matter in a team sport. Keeping the team environment good in domestic cricket and then doing the same with the national team taught me that you can learn small and beautiful things from your teammates. As Abhishek said, the environment around you is very important. You don’t want negative people because their negative thoughts start roaming in your mind.
