I stopped weeds growing on my patio in 5 minutes with 1 kitchen item

Most people might complain about the rain in summer, but I love it as it makes my garden look lush and green; unfortunately, it also causes a lot of stubborn weeds. Weeds seem to appear overnight in my garden and almost immediately will overtake my patio, so I have to spend afternoons pulling them up rather than enjoying the sun.

Over the years, I have tried every natural solution possible to remove these persistent plants, but they always seem to survive, even if I poured vinegar or salt all over them. I once even scrounged around my Dad’s shed and borrowed some strange-looking equipment to set fire to them, only for them to start growing back a week later. I almost gave up and accepted that I would always have a messy patio, until I discovered there is a simple way to get rid of weeds completely, and all I needed was a kitchen kettle.

How can boiling water remove patio weeds?

It was my neighbour who first told me that boiling water was the best method to kill weeds, and at first I did not believe him as I thought it sounded too simple to work.

However, I decided on a whim to do some online research and found that it is actually more effective than many other environmentally friendly weed killers.

Vinegar, salt, baking soda, and many other hacks cannot kill weeds as they will only target the green foliage on the surface and cannot get deep under the stone to harm the roots.

It is difficult to get rid of patio weeds because the roots will continue to grow deep into the concrete, even if the top plant is dead, and even if a little bit of it survives, it will just keep growing back.

Boiling hot water works because the liquid can travel deep into patio gaps to reach the root and the heat will cook it completely so that every part of the weed dies.

Does the boiling water method actually work?

I first tried using boiling water last spring, and after doing it for over a year, I have been amazed that something so simple could actually kill weeds.

In my experience, it takes me only five minutes of effort to kill the weeds, and shortly afterwards, the weeds will start wilting and turning yellow.

The weed should be brown and crispy the next morning, but the only downside I have found is that sometimes the weeds take a day or two to die, so I have to pour water on them again

However, it requires no effort, hardly any time and costs nothing so I do not mind and highly recommend trying it yourself, as it has been the best way for me to get rid of weeds.

I no longer spend my days off digging up weeds, and best of all, I do not have to spray chemical products around my garden, making it safe for my dog, who loves sniffing every plant he comes across.

How to get rid of weeds using boiling water?

All you have to do is fill the kettle, let it boil, and then carefully carry it outside. This is probably the most nerve-wracking part, so go slow and pick anything off the floor beforehand so there is nothing that could trip you up.

Next, stretch your arm out and hold the kettle at arm’s length over the weeds in order to avoid any splashback. Pour the water as slowly as you can

The weeds should start wilting after just a few minutes and will quickly turn yellow as well. If you go outside the next morning, then the weed should be brown, dried out, and completely dead.

You then just need to scrape the dead weeds off the patio with a broom and throw them in the bin.

This method is simple and has been the most effective way to clear my patio so I can enjoy sitting outdoors this summer without having to spend my afternoons weeding.
