Pankaj Advani advances to the semifinals

India’s star cueist Pankaj Advani has qualified for the the semi-final of the IBSF World Billiards150-up Championship in Doha, Qatar on Thursday.

The defending champion Pankaj took a hard-fought (4-3) win over fellow Indian Dhruv Sitwala in the quarterfinal to confirm another world medal to his name.

The other Indian player Sourav Kothari, will play his quarterfinal match later tonight against Australia’s Steve Mifsud. The winner of this match will face Pankaj in the semi-final on Friday.

Meanwhile, Rupesh Shah and Dhvaj Haria exited the competition in the quarterfinal after losing their respective matches (0-4) to England’s Robert Hall and Singapore’s Peter Gilchrist respectively.

On the other hand, Kamal Chawla and Manan Chandra booked their spot in the round of 16 of the IBSF World Masters Snooker Championship with a win over their Kuwaiti opponents respectively.

Kamal will now take on Saleh Mohammadi of Afghanistan in the pre-quarterfinal whereas Manan is up against Iraq’s Firas Kamil Shaba in his pre-quarterfinal match tomorrow.

Amee Kamani into the quarterfinals of women’s snooker

Amee Kamani is the sole Indian female snooker player who reached the quarterfinals of the IBSF World Women’s Snooker Championship 2024 in Doha, Qatar.

The 32-year-old booked her spot in the knockout round after topping her group B with 2 wins out of 3 matches. She is the third-seeded player in the quarterfinal and hence received a bye in the first round.

She will be fighting against Ploychompoo Laokiatphong of Thailand in the quarterfinal tomorrow. The winner of this match will confirm at least a medal from this event.

On the other hand, former silver medalist Vidya Pillai failed to progress to the knockout round despite winning two of the three group matches as she finished third in Group C based on the frames difference.
