T20 World Cup 2026: The ongoing controversy regarding the hosting of T20 World Cup 2026 and the venue of Bangladesh team’s matches is not stopping. Today an important video conference took place between the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), but even after this meeting the dispute has deepened.

There is less than a month left for the mega tournament to start from February 7, but there is suspense over Bangladesh’s participation. In the high-level meeting held today, the ICC rejected Bangladesh’s demand outright, while the BCB has flatly refused to change its stand citing ‘security’.

Refusal to play in India again

In the meeting, Bangladesh once again reiterated that they will not play their Group C matches in India. He requested the ICC to shift his matches to co-host Sri Lanka. ICC clarified that the tournament schedule, broadcasting plan and commercial deals have already been finalized. It is impossible to shift matches to another country in such a short time. ICC has asked BCB to reconsider its decision.

ICC’s ‘Plan-B’ also fails?

According to reports, ICC had proposed to shift Bangladesh’s matches from Kolkata and Mumbai to Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram to address security concerns. But BCB has also refused to accept this proposal of ICC.

Trouble started with Mustafizur controversy

This whole controversy started when BCCI directed IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders to release fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman midway through the series. In response to this, BCB, on the pretext of security reasons, threatened to boycott the World Cup matches and shift the venue, which is now costing them heavily.
