ICC begins preparations to invite Scotland, Bangladesh remains silent on response
T20 World Cup 2026 Update : The 24-hour deadline given by the ICC to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has expired. After this, there seems to be only one outcome to the ongoing dispute. It seems the outcome is clear. The ICC has now begun preparations to include Scotland in place of Bangladesh.
According to Cricbuzz, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) did not communicate its position to the ICC within the stipulated deadline. Media reports, however, stated that internal discussions had taken place with government officials and player representatives. However, at the time of writing this report, there had been no formal response from the BCB.
The ICC had made it clear that if Bangladesh had agreed to play, the matter would have been settled. Following this, the ICC was expected to invite another team, with Scotland being the most likely candidate. For the past 24 hours, Dubai has been waiting for clarity from Dhaka. Now, it can move quickly to formalize Scotland’s participation in the T20 World Cup.
Bangladesh Cricket Board president Aminul Islam spoke of the possibility of a last-minute miracle, but the ICC board had already voted on the issue, so there was no indication of any final change in the governing body’s stance. The decision was in Bangladesh’s hands, and no action was taken.
The BCB had all of Thursday to decide whether it would travel to India, but it maintained its stance, reiterating that it would not do so due to safety concerns for its players. Bangladesh government sports advisor Asif Nazrul said on Thursday that not playing in India was the government’s decision. However, this decision was bound to have consequences.
