ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Pakistan includes 'injured' Saim Ayyub in its preliminary squad

Delhi: Pakistan opening batsman Saim Ayyub has been included in the preliminary squad selected by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. However, Ayub is currently recovering from a right ankle injury, and the PCB is hopeful that he will be fully fit before the tournament.

Remember that Saim Ayyub had suffered a serious ankle injury while fielding in the second Test match against South Africa. This incident happened in the seventh over, when he fell. He had to leave the field due to injury, and the PCB confirmed that he would be sidelined from cricket for six weeks.

The Champions Trophy will start from 19th February and its final match will be played on 9th March. Eight teams will participate in this tournament. So far, six countries have announced their teams, while India and Pakistan have not announced their squads. BCCI can announce the Indian team by January 19.

According to PTI, Pakistan's selectors have given Ayub a place in the preliminary team. However, he is not completely fit yet. Changes in the final team for the Champions Trophy can be made till 13 February.

At present, Syme is undergoing treatment in London and his final medical report is awaited. If the doctors allow, he can start his rehabilitation in Lahore.

Ayub has played 4 matches in first-class cricket, in which he has scored 202 runs. His performance in List A cricket has been excellent, where he scored an unbeaten 107* runs in 1 match. In T20 cricket, he has scored 324 runs in 14 matches, in which his highest score has been 62.
