ICC penalises Pakistan for slow-over rate in Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 tie against India:
Read, Digital Desk : Pakistan has been fined for the slow-over rate maintained during their Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 encounter against India in Birmingham. The women in green were found to be one over short of the required rate time.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has slapped a fine of five per cent of match fees on Pakistan for their slow over-rate during their Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 league encounter against India on Sunday, June 14. The Women in green were outclassed by Women in Blue in the tournament opener by 64 runs at the Edgbaston, Birmingham, after failing to perform both with the bat and the ball.
ICC match referee Trudy Anderson imposed the sanction as the Fatima Sana-led unit was found one over short of the required over-rate time following the taking into account of all time allowances that were deemed appropriate to be adjusted for.
Minimum over rate offenses are a violation of Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. “where the Match Referee confirms that the Minimum Over Rate has not been achieved by the fielding side in any International Match, this shall constitute an offence under Article 2.22 of the Code of Conduct and the Match Referee will promptly issue a Notice of Charge in accordance with Article 4.1 of the Code of Conduct (with the Team Captain being charged on behalf of all the Players in the fielding side as well as him/herself) and the matter will be thereafter be adjudicated by the Match Referee in accordance with the procedure set out in Article 5.”
It also stated that 11 players in the fielding team will be deducted 5% of their Match Fee per over short of Minimum Over Rate with a maximum cap of 50%.
Pakistan crumble against India in WC clash
Coming back to the match, Pakistan were unable to find their feet and were bowled out of contention against the Indian team. They conceded a massive 170/6, on the back of Smriti Mandhana’s 57-ball 60, while Richa Ghosh chipped in with 17-ball 34. Both Deepti Sharma and Sree Charani’s spin wizardry left the Pakistan batters in tatters as the pair accounted for 8 wickets between them with the all-rounder claiming 5 wickets for just 10 runs while Charani bagged 3 wickets for 21 runs.
Deepti’s unimaginable 5/10 across her four overs registered her name in the history books as the best figures for India in T20 World Cups, eclipsing Renuka Singh Thakur’s 5/15 in 2023 Women’s World Cup against England. Deepti became the third Indian to claim a fifer in the tournament with Priyank Roy being the third cricketer ever to have accomplished the same feat.
The off-spinner also became the first Indian to claim multiple five-wicket hauls in Women’s T20Is, and only the sixth from full member nations to have done so.
