Who will make it to the T20 World Cup 2026 Final if the Semi-Finals get abandoned?

After quite a bit of struggle, India has finally made it to the semi-finals. On 4th March, South Africa and New Zealand will face off in the semi-final at Eden Gardens, and on 5th March, India will take on England at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

But what happens if it rains during the semi-finals? The ICC keeps a reserve day for big tournaments like this for both the semi-finals and the final. So, if it rains on the scheduled day of a semi-final, the match will be played the next day.

However, the real question is: what if it rains on the reserve day as well? This might sound a bit unfair, but if the reserve day is also washed out, the team that finished higher on the Super 8 points table will qualify for the final.

Looking at the points table: in Group 1, India is in 2nd position, while in Group 2, England is the table topper. So in that situation, England would directly qualify for the final. Similarly, South Africa topped Group 1, and New Zealand finished 2nd in Group 2. So if their semi-final is washed out even on the reserve day, South Africa would directly qualify for the final.
