ICC T20 World Cup: India in semi-finals for the sixth time due to Sanju Samson’s unforgettable innings, West Indies defeated in the final match.

Kolkata, March 1. Wicketkeeper batsman Sanju Samson (97 not out, 50 balls, four sixes, 12 fours) came through when needed and his unforgettable innings bore fruit at a packed Eden Gardens on Sunday night as defending champions and co-hosts India defeated West Indies by five wickets with four balls to spare in the final Group 1 match of the Super 8 to reach the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup cricket tournament. Windies had reached 195 runs due to the strong partnership of Powell and Holder.

India will meet England in the semi-finals on March 5.

India, which finished second in Super 8 Group 1, will now meet England, which topped Group 2, in the second semi-final on March 5 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Tilak Verma became the second highest scorer

Samar Joseph (2-42) broke this partnership by returning Surya on the score of 99 in the 11th over, while the second highest scorer Tilak Verma (27 runs, 15 balls, one six, four fours) took the score to 141 runs in the presence of Sanju amidst attractive strikes. In the 15th over, when Hetmyer took his third catch in the form of Tilak on Holder’s ball, Hardik Pandya (17 runs, 14 balls, two fours) also tried to support Samson.

Sanju along with Shivam gave the final touch to the victory.

At one time it seemed that only Sanju and Pandya will sail the team, then Joseph disappointed even Hardik with the total of 179. At that time India needed 17 runs from 10 balls. At present, Shivam Dubey (eight runs not out, four balls, two fours) hit two fours as soon as he landed and Sanju gave the final touch to the Indian victory in the last over.

Chase and Hope made a partnership of 68 runs for the first wicket.

Holder and Powell scored 76 runs in the last 35 balls.

When West Indies crossed the 100-run mark in 11 overs, Jasprit Bumrah (2-36) made two big successes in the 12th over and after the chase, he dismissed Shimron Hetmyer (27 runs from 12 balls, two sixes, one four). Sherfane Rutherford (14 runs, nine balls, one six) also soon became the victim of Hardik Pandya (1-40). However, after this, Powell and Holder started batting aggressively and took the team to 195 runs with an unbroken partnership of 76 runs in just 35 balls for the fifth wicket.

Overall, Bumrah bowled well in the middle overs. But India saved them for the death overs, which was of no use. In this sequence, Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh (0-43) proved to be the most expensive, against whom 24 runs were given in the 16th over. For now, all’s well that ends well and Samson did not disappoint the hosts with his responsible innings.
