New Delhi, 27 December. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday night announced the Indian team led by Ayush Mhatre for the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026. Vihaan Malhotra has been given the vice captaincy. Vaibhav Suryavanshi will also be a part of this team. The Under-19 Cricket World Cup, jointly hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia, will be played in the 50-over format from January 15 to February 6.
Team also announced for South Africa tour
In the same sequence, the Board also announced the Under-19 team squad for the proposed South African tour before the Under-19 World Cup. In that tour, the national under-19 team will play three ODI matches between January 3 and 7.
Captain and vice captain will not play against South Africa
BCCI has also shared the information that the captain of the team announced for the World Cup, Ayush Mhatre and vice-captain Vihaan Malhotra have suffered wrist injuries, due to which they will not play in the series against South Africa. Before joining the World Cup team, Mhatre and Malhotra will have to inform BCCI’s Center of Excellence.

India’s match schedule for the World Cup
A total of 16 teams will participate in the Under-19 World Cup 2026. Five-time champions India have been placed in Group B along with New Zealand, USA and Bangladesh. India will start its campaign with a match against USA on January 15. Its second match will be against Bangladesh on 17 January while the last league match will be against New Zealand on 24 January.
