ICC’s ultimatum to Team India, resolution of handshake dispute necessary

India-Pakistan handshake controversy: New discussion before Under-19 Asia Cup

A new controversy has arisen regarding handshake before the match between India and Pakistan in the Under-19 Asia Cup. In the last few tournaments, the Indian team had refused to shake hands with the Pakistan team in solidarity with the victims of the Pavelgam terrorist attack. Now the International Cricket Council (ICC) believes that political overtones should be kept away in junior cricket and normal protocols should be followed. At the same time, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given clear instructions to its manager that the final decision has been left to Team India.

How did the handshake controversy start?

Last year, the Indian men’s team had refused to join hands with Pakistan in the Asia Cup, which gave clarity in their stand. After this, the same tradition was continued in the Women’s World Cup and Rising Stars Tournament. ICC no longer wants to see this issue linked to politics at the junior level.

ICC Appeals and General Protocol

According to a report, ICC wants the normal handshake procedure to be adopted in the spirit of sportsmanship during the match between Indian and Pakistani youth players. The organization argues that junior cricket should be kept free from external pressures and political contexts.

BCCI guidelines and role of manager

BCCI has given clear instructions to team manager Anand Datar that any decision related to handshake should be informed to the match referee in advance. The Board believes that it is necessary to follow the protocol to avoid any confusion.

Discussion and status of players in the Indian team

According to sources, Indian players have not received any formal instructions yet. However, the team management will follow the BCCI guidelines. There is some uncertainty in the team regarding this issue, but the final decision will be taken before the match.

India vs Pakistan: Upcoming match

India will start its Asia Cup against UAE and will lock horns with Pakistan on Sunday. Player Vaibhav Suryavanshi and captain Ayush Mhatre are currently in great form. Mangahar has scored consecutive centuries in domestic T20, while Suryavanshi has become the youngest century.
