If there is PNG pipeline near the house, then the connection will have to be taken, if it is not taken after three months’ notice, then the supply of LPG will be stopped.
Lucknow. If a gas pipeline has come near your house and you have not taken a PNG connection, then the LPG cylinder coming to your house will be stopped in the next 3 months. In view of the ongoing war and gas shortage in the Middle East, the Central Government has implemented ‘Natural Gas and Petroleum Products Distribution Order 2026’.

Under this, it will now be mandatory to take piped gas (PNG) connection. However, prior notice will be given for this. If someone does not take the connection even after receiving the information, his LPG supply will be stopped after 90 days. Besides, the societies will also have to give approval for the pipeline within 3 days.
Society will have to give approval within 3 days
Many times the pipeline work was halted due to opposition from housing societies or RWAs (Resident Welfare Associations). This will not happen now.

If a company asks for a path for the pipeline, the society will have to give approval within 3 days. If the society refuses or delays, then LPG supply to all the houses living there will be stopped.
Small areas will get approval in 10 days
Government departments are no longer allowed to hold up files for laying pipelines.
It is mandatory to give approval in 10 days for small networks and 60 days for big lines.
If the department does not respond within the stipulated time, it will be treated as ‘deemed clearance’ i.e. ‘automatic approval’ and the work will start.
Double compensation to land owner for pipeline
If the pipeline is passing through someone’s private land, then cases regarding compensation will not go on for years. The government has made a fixed formula for this.
30 percent of the commercial circle rate of the land will be given as compensation to the owner.
If the land owner approves the application within 24 hours of receiving it, he will get double i.e. 60 percent compensation.
If the land owner does not give approval, the ‘designated authority’ (collector or other officer) will take the decision.
Is it for your safety and savings?
The government has issued a new order under the ‘Essential Commodities Act’, so that you do not face shortage of cooking gas even in war-like situations.
Advantage: You will not have to worry about cylinder booking or expiry.
Disadvantage: People who want to use the cylinder as per their wish will now have limited options.
Those with PNG connection will not get LPG cylinder.
The government had issued new rules regarding PNG connection on March 14 itself. Under this, if you have a Piped Natural Gas (PNG) connection in your house, then now you will have to surrender your LPG cylinder. According to the new order, PNG users will neither get a new LPG connection nor will the old cylinder be refilled. The government has already issued new rules 4 times regarding the supply of LPG cylinders.
What will be the process for the tenant?
It is written in the notification that the application for PNG connection can be made by the ‘legal occupier’ or ‘owner’ of the house. That means you can apply yourself as a tenant.
You have two options when you receive a notice for setting up a PNG connection.
Via Landlord: You can talk to the landlord and get the connection installed in his name. This is the easiest method as the pipeline becomes part of the fixed property.
In the name of the tenant: Gas companies also provide connections to tenants. This will usually require a rent agreement and an NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the landlord. If you already have an LPG connection in your name then it will have to be surrendered.
LPG supply will be stopped even if landlord refuses to install PNG.
Even if the landlord refuses for pipeline fitting, LPG supply to that address will be stopped after 90 days. The government’s new rule is based on address, not person. If pipeline is possible at that address, oil companies will stop delivering cylinders there.
PNG connection can be surrendered while changing residence.
If you change homes, the PNG connection will remain the same. Before leaving the house, the gas company will have to be informed about this. The company will close the account and return the security deposit.
If PNG is not installed in the new house then you will have to repeat the same process again. If there is no pipeline facility near that house, then again you can buy LPG cylinder.
