If Aadhaar-PAN is not linked, double tax (TDS) will be deducted from salary.

News India Live, Digital Desk: The year 2025 is about to end and we all are going to start preparing for the New Year celebrations. But wait! Have you completed the most important task written in your diary, whose deadline is hanging over your head? Yes, I am talking about linking PAN Card with Aadhaar Card. The Income Tax Department has made it clear that 31st December 2025 is the last date to do this work. If you think, “Hey, there’s still plenty of time” or “We’ll see later,” you’re making a big mistake. The morning of January 1 can bring trouble for you. Let us understand in simple language what will happen if you do not link and how to solve it in a jiffy. What will happen if you do not link? (It is necessary to be afraid) The government is no longer in a joking mood. If you do not do this by 31st, your PAN card will be declared ‘Inoperative’ (inactive/useless). Do you understand what this means? PAN will become junk: it will have no value except a piece of paper. Double Tax: If PAN is not active, then the TDS deducted on your salary or FD interest will increase by 20%. That means your hard-earned money will be deducted directly. Bank operations stopped: Without PAN, you will neither be able to open a bank account nor invest money in mutual funds or stock market. Even transactions above Rs 50,000 will not be possible. Will it cost money? Friends, the free scheme has ended many years ago. Since we all have delayed a lot, now we will have to pay a late fee of Rs 1,000. But believe me, these 1000 rupees are nothing in comparison to the loss that will be incurred due to closure of PAN card. The easiest way to link at home is that you do not need to go to any cyber café or CA. Follow these steps from your mobile: Go to the website: Go to the Income Tax e-filing website. Select ‘Link Aadhaar’: On the left side of the homepage, you will see ‘Quick Links’, click on “Link Aadhaar” there. Fill the details: Enter your PAN number and Aadhaar number and click on ‘Validate’. Make payment: If you have not paid the penalty earlier, then click on ‘Continue to Pay Through e-Pay Tax’ Click and pay the challan of Rs 1000. Confirm with OTP: After payment, come back to the linked page, enter Aadhaar name and mobile number. An OTP will come, as soon as you fill it, your request will be submitted. First check, is the link already there? Many times we do not remember and get worried. There is an option of “Link Aadhaar Status” on this website. Check by entering your PAN and Aadhaar number there. If it is written “Already Linked” then sleep peacefully.
