Kohli retired from Test cricket on May 12, 2025 before the five-match series against England, ending one of the decorated red-ball careers. Sidhu added Kohli’s presence would uplift India and insisted that his fitness remains elite.
“If God granted me a wish I’d say bring Kohli out of his retirement & make him play Test Cricket . Nothing would give more joy and ecstasy to a country of 1.5 billion ! His fitness is that of a twenty year old – he himself 24 carat gold,” Sidhu wrote.
Kohli bid adieu to T20Is after India won the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA. Kohli is now active in one-day internationals and wants to play in the 2027 World Cup.
Despite retiring from two formats, Kohli is dominating the fifty-over format. After registering two consecutive ducks in Australia, Kohli returned to form. He has been unstoppable since then, scoring two hundreds and two fifties in four matches. He scored an unbeaten 74 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Virat then hit two successive centuries against South Africa and finished the series with a magnificent fifty.
He accumulated 651 runs from 13 ODI innings at an average of 65.10 in 2025. Kohli was also brilliant in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, scoring a century and 77 for Delhi.
He is now preparing for the upcoming New Zealand ODI series starting January 11.
