“If I get the call…”Ben Stokes makes a bold revelation about his white ball future

England’s Test captain, Ben Stokes, has said he might consider coming back to the white-ball team now that Brendon McCullum is the Head Coach for all England’s cricket teams.

But, Stokes also mentioned that he and McCullum haven’t talked about it yet because he’s busy getting better before England’s Test series in Pakistan.

“It’s a great chance for the white-ball team to see what Baz has done for the Test team. He’s a fantastic coach who is really dedicated, and it’s good that all three teams now have the same ideas about how to play cricket,” Stokes told SkyCricket, as reported by ESPNCricinfo.

The English all-rounder also mentioned that he would be content to sit and watch his teammates play in the limited-overs matches, indicating that he wouldn’t be upset if he doesn’t get selected.

“If I get the call and [Baz] asks, ‘do you want to come and play?’ Then obviously, I’ll definitely say yes, but I won’t be too upset if I don’t, because I can just sit back and watch everyone else go out and play well,” he added.

Stokes was part of the English limited-overs team that won their first ODI World Cup in 2019, followed by their second T20 World Cup title in 2022. He will be remembered in English cricket history for his match-saving performances in the middle-order and his contributions with the ball as well.

“I’ve played a lot of limited-overs cricket for England, and I’m really pleased with my performance in that format,” he said. “But honestly, we haven’t discussed anything like that at all. I think he’s just letting me focus on what I need to focus on, especially with the Test team,” Stokes mentioned.

With McCullum involved in England’s limited-overs cricket, Stokes thinks that the former New Zealand captain would probably help him concentrate more on the Test team rather than relying on him again for the shorter formats.
