If SL vs ENG match is washed out, there will be chaos in Super-8 Group-2, will PAK’s problems increase?
Due to continuous rain in Sri Lanka, there is a danger of the excitement of T20 World Cup 2026 getting faded. One match of the Super 8 stage has already been washed out due to weather and now the England vs Sri Lanka match is also cloudy. If this match also gets canceled then the standing of Group 2 of Super 8 can get completely confused. Due to which the race for the semi-finals will become even more difficult. Because of this, Pakistani fans are worried whether their team will be able to reach the semi-finals or not.
On Saturday, February 21, the Super 8 match between Pakistan and New Zealand in Colombo was abandoned without a single ball being bowled. Now the match between England and Sri Lanka at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele on Sunday, 22 February is also in danger.

How will the weather be in Pallekele on Sunday?
According to weather agency Accuweather, the probability of rain in Pallekele on Sunday is around 87 percent. At night it may reduce to about 55 percent. But estimates suggest that a full 20 overs match is unlikely. Rain is expected for several hours during the day and drizzle in the evening, which may delay or interrupt the match.
What will happen if the match is cancelled?
There is no reserve day for the Super 8 stage matches of T20 World Cup 2026. Therefore, if a match is not completed on the scheduled day then it will be officially declared no result. In this situation both the teams will get one point each. According to tournament rules, at least five overs must be played for the result to be decided.

Pakistan’s equation may get worse
Already one match has been canceled due to rain, hence the situation in Group-2 of Super-8 has become very exciting and tight. If the match between England and Sri Lanka also remains inconclusive, then all four teams may have equal points. In such a situation, the upcoming matches will be completely do or die and to reach the semi-finals, every team will have to win its remaining matches at any cost.
Now every team has to play two more matches in this group. Talking about Pakistan, it will be very important for them to win both their matches to make it to the semi-finals. If Pakistan wins only one match, then it will have to win that match by a big margin, so that the net run rate can be better. Otherwise, Pakistan will have to depend on the results of other teams also.
