“If they do that…”Sunil Gavaskar drops a massive bombshell on India vs Australia result
Sunil Gavaskar, a famous Indian cricketer has given his views on the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia. Out of the remaining five Tests in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle, Gavaskar has called the Indian team to win at least four Tests to reach the final without depending on other results. During this, he has voiced that he does not think that Team India will be able to beat Australia in Australia 4-0.
No. Gavaskar further explained that keeping in mind the WTC final chances is not needed at all and only the Border-Gavaskar Trophy should be the target of the Indian side.
“If it is about claiming that India can beat Australia by 4-0 in the Test series, I would be very, very I would be over the moon. If they do that, I would be over the moon if they do that. But 4-0. India can win 3-1, 4-0 is… don’t talk about the World Test Championship final. Now just focus on trying to win the series in Australia. Never mind whether you win 1-0,2-0,3-0, 3-1,2-1. But go and win. Because that is how all of us Indian cricket fans are going to be back to feeling good again,” Gavaskar said during an interaction with India Today.
India have comprehensively won the last four Test series against the Australians and have won these series at a score of 2-1. Two of these came in Australia.
The last time Australia won a Test series vs India came 10 years ago in the 2014/15 season.
World Test Championship (WTC) scenario: How can it play out?
On paper, India needs four wins to confirm their qualification, but it is doubtful they will have to win all of them. This is because the other countries are vying for a place at the WTC final play amongst themselves, and they will hinder each other’s results.
Australia is set to visit Sri Lanka, who is set to visit South Africa with Pakistan also in the mix. New Zealand will also be playing three Tests against England. Therefore, the chances of the WTC standings changing significantly is high.
