If you also eat grapes without washing them, then know here how harmful it is…

Grapes are such a fruit that neither need to be cut nor peeled and hence many people, after bringing grapes from the market, start eating them directly by plucking them without washing them. But as delicious as fresh and sweet grapes are, it is equally important to clean them properly. Pesticides, wax coatings, dust and microorganisms can stick to the thin and soft skin of grapes. Therefore, it is very important to wash them thoroughly before eating. So if you also make this mistake then it is important to correct it in time.

How to wash grapes correctly?

  • Wash the grapes under running water: First wash the grapes along with the stalks under running water for 30–40 seconds. This removes surface dirt.
  • Water with salt or baking soda: Take water in a big vessel and add 1 teaspoon salt or 1 teaspoon baking soda in it. Soak grapes in it for 10-15 minutes. This helps in reducing pesticide residues.
  • Rub lightly: Turn the grapes lightly with your hands so that the dirt stuck on the surface gets loosened.
  • Wash again with clean water. After soaking, wash the grapes thoroughly again with clean water.
  • Keep dry: After washing, dry it on a clean cloth or paper towel. Wet grapes can spoil quickly if kept in the refrigerator.

Additional Tips

  1. Wash just before eating.
  2. Choose organic grapes if possible, although it is important to wash them as well.
  3. Grapes that look too shiny may have a wax coating, so clean thoroughly.
