If you become MLA, your property will double in 5 years! Kerala figures are giving testimony
The new government of Kerala has taken oath just a few days ago and has started work. In Kerala, which has a total of 140 assembly seats, the United Democratic Front (UDF) has formed the government and Congress’s VD Satheesan has become the Chief Minister. Out of the total 140 MLAs elected in this assembly, there are 55 MLAs who had won the elections last time also. Interestingly, about 30 percent of these MLAs are those whose wealth has increased at least double. There are some MLAs whose wealth has increased by 7 to 8 times. Among the re-elected MLAs, there are only 8 MLAs whose assets have reduced compared to 2021.
This time, out of total 140 elected MLAs in Kerala, 93 i.e. 69 percent are crorepatis. The average assets of these MLAs is Rs 6.94 crore. If compared with the previous elections, the number of crorepati MLAs in 2021 was 75 and in 2016 only 61 MLAs were crorepatis. This shows that every time the number of crorepati MLAs is increasing in Kerala.

This time, 68 percent of Congress MLAs, 86 percent of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), 54 percent of CPM and 67 percent of BJP MLAs are crorepatis. The richest MLA is Reji Cherian and he has declared total assets worth Rs 218 crore. BJP’s Rajiv Chandrashekhar is at second place with assets worth Rs 111 crore.
How rich did the MLAs who won again become?
There are a total of 55 MLAs in Kerala who had won in 2021 and this time also. Out of these, there are 16 MLAs whose wealth has increased at least double. The wealth of Ramesh Chennithala, who became a minister in the Kerala government, has increased from Rs 3 crore to Rs 7 crore. Similarly, the assets of Congress’ Sanish Kumar Joseph have increased from Rs 2.8 crore to Rs 7 crore.

The wealth of CPM MLA from Tarur assembly seat, Sumod, has increased by almost 6 times. His wealth has increased from Rs 9.94 lakh to more than Rs 56 lakh. Similarly, the assets of CPM MLA M Vijin increased from Rs 14.56 lakh to Rs 77.64 lakh. His wealth has increased by almost 5 times. The wealth of CPM MLA K U Jenish Kumar has increased almost three times and his wealth has increased from Rs 36 lakh to Rs 1.3 crore.
Whose wealth increased the most?
Congress MLA Mathew Kujalanadan has again won the election from Muvattupuzha seat. Last time his total assets were Rs 34 crores and this time his assets have increased by Rs 5 crores. This time his wealth has increased to Rs 39 crore. The wealth of Congress MLA Ramesh Chennithala has increased more than double. Last time his wealth was Rs 3 crore and this time it has become Rs 7 crore.
There are a total of 8 MLAs whose assets have decreased instead of increasing. The assets of Congress MLA IC Balakrishnan were Rs 64 lakh in 2021 and now they have come down to Rs 37.64 lakh. Similarly, the assets of K Rema have reduced from Rs 96.8 lakh to Rs 59.99 lakh. Chief Minister VD Satheesan’s assets have also seen a decline. Last time his total assets were Rs 6,69,12,677 but this time he has declared his assets to be Rs 6,65,64,170 crore.
