New Delhi: West Bengal Congress has declared its candidates on all the seats for the assembly elections. At most places, workers have started campaigning in support of the candidates, but the party’s problems have increased in Salboni assembly seat of West Medinipur district. Actually, a video is becoming increasingly viral on social media, in which some workers are not happy with this announcement and are vandalizing it.
Controversy and resentment on Salboni seat
The central leadership has made Arup Mukherjee the candidate for Salboni seat. But there is deep dissatisfaction among local party workers regarding this name. On Monday, angry workers created a ruckus in the party office. They raised slogans loudly and broke furniture. To raise his voice, he even set fire to the furniture in the office.
Importance of Salboni seat
Salboni assembly seat comes under Jhargram Lok Sabha constituency. There are about 2 to 2.5 lakh voters here. In the 2021 assembly elections, Shrikant Mahata of Trinamool Congress had won by a margin of about 32 thousand votes. BJP’s Rajeev Kundu stood second, while Congress stood third.
record of previous elections
This seat has been in the possession of Trinamool Congress continuously for the last three assembly elections. Earlier this seat was considered the stronghold of leftist parties. Now Congress is trying to make a strong comeback here, but the internal discord regarding ticket distribution is affecting the party’s preparations.
