Pethe Halwa Recipe: Everyone's mouth starts watering on hearing the name of halwa. You all must have eaten carrot, semolina and gram flour halwa a lot, but the halwa we are talking about today, you might have never eaten before. Its name is Pethe ka Halwa, which tastes very special. This halwa is mostly made during festivals in Udupi city of Karnataka. But, nowadays it is being liked a lot in other places too. Ingredients for making Petha Halwa

  • Petha/White Pumpkin – 1/2 kg
    Sugar – 1 cup
  • Raisins – 1 tablespoon
    Cashew nuts- 4 tbsp
  • Raisins – 2 tbsp
  • Almonds – 1 tsp
  • Pistachio – 1 tsp
    Ground cardamom – ½ cup tablespoon
  • Milk – ¼ cup
  • Ghee – 4 tsp
  • Saffron – a little

Method for making pudding

  • Take some milk in a small bowl, add saffron to it and let it soak. This enhances both the colour and taste of Petha halwa.
  • Wash the Ashgourd thoroughly and peel it. Now cut it into small pieces and grate it.
  • Take a pan and add grated Ashgourd in it. Cook it on medium flame till the water of Ashgourd dries up completely. If water remains, the taste of the halwa will not be good.
  • After this add sugar to it and mix it well.
  • Once the sugar is mixed well, add the mixture of milk and saffron to it.
  • Cook for a while while stirring continuously with a spoon.
  • Heat ghee in another pan. When the ghee is hot, add cashews and raisins and fry it for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add these dry fruits to the halwa and mix well. Add cardamom powder and some more ghee to it. Your healthy and tasty Petha halwa is ready.
  • You can use finely chopped pistachios and almonds to garnish it. Serve it hot or after it cools down.
