Lucknow. Dr. MLB Bhatt has been appointed as the new director of Kalyan Singh Cancer Institute located at Chak Ganjariya in Lucknow, the capital of UP. Ignoring the government rules and the orders of the National Medical Council, Principal Secretary of the Medical Education Department, Partha Sarathi Sen Sharma, has issued the letter of his appointment on Saturday.

Let us tell you that the treatment in the Cancer Institute had started from the year 2017, but till date the government has not been able to prepare the rules for the appointment to the post of Director of this institute. Therefore, till now many appointments are being made under the rules of PGI. According to the rules of PGI, one can apply for the post of Director only till the age of 65 years, whereas Prof. MLB Bhatt was above this range. In such a situation, a complaint was also made against his application. Also, questions were raised over the absence of any mention of age requirement in the advertisement for the post of Director of Kalyan Singh Cancer Institute. Letters were sent to the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary and Directorate General of Medical Education of UP regarding this matter. In such a situation, there was speculation that the appointment process would be postponed again, but on Saturday the government has flouted the rules by issuing a letter.

Apart from the appointment of Dr. MLB Bhatt, questions are also being raised regarding his tenure. In the order issued by the government, he has been made the director for five years, whereas according to the National Medical Council, no person can remain the director of any institution after 70 years. Pro. MLB Bhatt is around 67 years old. In such a situation, it is not clear whether he will complete his five-year tenure or will have to leave the post midway.
