“I’m confident the runs will come”: BBL teammate backs struggling Babar Azam

The slump has also taken its toll on Babar’s standing in the ICC T20I batting charts, with the one-time No.1 now positioned at 31st, raising questions as the countdown to the global tournament gathers pace.
Josh Philippe believes Babar Azam’s best is yet to come as the T20 World Cup approaches, throwing his support behind the Pakistani batter after a dip in form. Babar has endured a lean phase, managing only two T20I fifties since the last World Cup in the USA and West Indies. In 2025, he has amassed 206 runs from eight innings at an average of 34.33, and a strike rate hovering just above 114.

Babar’s Australian assignment with the Sydney Sixers has begun on a quiet note, with single-digit contributions in his opening two BBL matches.
Despite the slow start, Australia wicketkeeper-batter Josh Philippe is confident Babar’s purple patch isn’t far away, backing the Pakistan star to rediscover his best touch.
“Babar is a top-class cricketer,” Philippe said, as quoted by the ICC. “Adjusting to Australian conditions and the extra bounce can be tricky at first, but with a few matches and practice sessions behind him, he’ll be fine. His track record speaks for itself, and I’m confident the runs will come in the next game,” he added.
Philippe’s recent returns have come at the No.3 slot, with the power-hitter happy to hold that role while Babar looks to rediscover form.
“I’m excited about the chance to put together a solid partnership with Babar and learn from him while we’re out there. He’s a terrific guy, and having him around has been a real plus,” he added.
