“I’m not sure what the lineup will look like….”Starc uncertain about Australian bowling line-up in the absence of this Young all rounder

Australia’s bowling strategy for the upcoming five-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy could be altered due to the absence of versatile player Cameron Green, and this might lead to more responsibilities for spinner Nathan Lyon, according to top fast bowler Mitchell Starc. Green will have surgery for his back issues and will be out for at least six months. Although Australia has another all-rounder, Mitchell Marsh, who can help share the load, Starc acknowledged that Green’s absence will impact their plans.

“Whenever you lose a true all-rounder like Cameron Green, or in England’s case, Ben Stokes, it changes things,” Starc said, as reported by ESPNCricinfo.

“When you have a truly versatile player who has been with the team for some time … you get used to having that extra bowling option.

“I’m not sure what the lineup will look like, there’s a lot of discussion about the opening position and Mitch (Marsh) also bowling,” he said.

Starc mentioned that this isn’t a new problem for Australia.

“It’s not entirely new to us. We’ve had series before where we didn’t have a player who could do everything well,” he said.

“We’ve had to share some of that work, and Gaz (Nathan Lyon) has probably had to bowl a bit more as well.

“This way of thinking has been around for several years now, whether we’re on an overseas tour or playing at home, and understanding how tough a summer or series can be.” Starc mentioned that the rest days between the five Tests against India will be very important for the bowlers as Australia aims to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in ten years.

“We’ve talked about it, if four or five Tests last four days, the extra day between games… There’s a big break between the first and second Test, and also between the third and fourth Test. That could also make a difference,” he said.

“We can’t predict the outcomes or our success. There are too many variables to know what will happen at the beginning. But there are definitely times when you feel the pressure of playing five Test matches.” Starc believes young batter Sam Konstas can perform well at the highest level after his strong performances in the Sheffield Shield.

“There’s no reason he can’t handle it. He clearly has talent, a strong work ethic, and is a great young man. If he isn’t chosen this summer, I’m sure his past performances will help him in the future,” he said.
