IMD Rain Alert: From the bitter cold The Meteorological Department has once again issued an alarming warning for those hoping for relief. According to the latest IMD estimates, in nine states between January 22 and 25 heavy rain And storms are likely. Wind speeds may reach 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, leading to another major drop in temperature.
A moderate to heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and several parts of Rajasthan. Dense fog will reduce visibility in the morning, which is likely to disrupt road traffic and normal life.
The minimum temperature in national capital Delhi is expected to be around 8 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. While afternoon sunshine may bring some relief, light to moderate rain is also expected here from January 23. A cold wave warning has been issued in more than 10 cities of Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Kanpur and Meerut, where chilly winds of 15 kmph are gusting in the morning. Patna, Gaya and Darbhanga districts of Bihar will also see a change in weather from January 20, with temperatures expected to drop by one to two degrees. After January 22, many parts of Uttar Pradesh have been warned of heavy rains, which will further intensify the cold weather.

Heavy snowfall in the mountains and cold in the plains
The weather is likely to deteriorate the most in the hilly states, adding to the woes in the plains. Heavy snowfall and rain are forecast over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh from January 22 to 24. In Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla, the minimum temperature may drop to 2 degrees Celsius, while Manali is likely to dip below minus 15 degrees Celsius. Dehradun, Nainital and Pauri Garhwal in Uttarakhand are likely to receive rain on January 23, adding to the chill. Due to this snowfall and rain in the mountains, severe cold will continue till January 26 in states like Punjab and Haryana.
Due to activation of Western Disturbance, weather conditions are likely to change over Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan as well. Jaipur, Sikar and Jodhpur cities of Rajasthan are likely to receive rain on January 22 and 23, which will bring a sudden drop in temperature. Light rains are also expected in major cities of Madhya Pradesh like Bhopal, Indore and Gwalior after January 21, which will add to the chill. The Meteorological Department has advised farmers to protect their crops in view of rain and strong winds in the coming days. Overall, north and central India will experience severe cold once again in the last week of January.
