IMD Weather Alert of heavy rain and thunderstorm in 17 states
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe weather warning for large parts of the country. According to the latest forecast, there is a possibility of heavy rain, strong thunderstorm and thunderstorm in 17 states within the next 13 hours.
Weather Update: The Meteorological Department has once again issued a warning regarding heavy rains and strong storms in many parts of the country. According to the alert, India Meteorological Department has predicted bad weather in a total of 17 states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, where strong winds at a speed of 80 to 90 kilometers per hour can occur with heavy rainfall at some places.
There is also a possibility of thunderstorm and lightning in many areas of Eastern India, which may increase the risk of loss of life and property. There is also a possibility of damage to trees and weak structures due to the strong storm.
Which states are most at risk?
According to IMD, the 17 states where alert has been issued include Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Tripura, Kerala and Tamil Nadu. There is also a possibility of heavy rain and lightning along with thunder at many places in these states.
According to the Meteorological Department, the wind speed in some areas can reach 60 to 90 km per hour. Due to strong winds, trees and electric poles may get damaged. Danger to kutcha houses and temporary structures, possibility of power supply disruption, damage to standing crops in the fields. Farmers have been specifically advised to avoid working in open fields and remain alert until the weather becomes normal.
Effect of weather in North India
- Delhi-NCR: Thunderstorm alert continues in Delhi on June 6. Here strong winds can blow at a speed of 60 to 70 km per hour. The temperature is expected to be around 39°C maximum and 29°C minimum.
- Uttar Pradesh: There is an alert of heavy rain and thunderstorm in many districts including Meerut, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur. Winds can reach 60–65 km per hour.
- Bihar: There is a warning of heavy rain and stormy winds till June 6-7 in many districts including Patna, Gaya, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur.
Situation in Eastern and Central India
Heavy rain and winds of 70–80 kmph are expected in Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha and Chhattisgarh. In Madhya Pradesh too, there is a possibility of rain and thundershowers in many districts. According to experts, the risk of lightning is high in these areas, due to which there is a need for vigilance in rural areas.
Weather in hilly states
There is a danger of landslides with heavy rains in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.
- Himachal: Winds of 60–65 kmph
- Uttarakhand: Gale of 70–75 kmph
- Jammu and Kashmir: Heavy rain and stormy winds in many districts
Tourists in Himachal and Uttarakhand have also been advised to take extra precautions.
Effect of monsoon in South India
Due to the activity of monsoon in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, heavy rains will continue.
- Winds up to 80 km per hour in Kerala
- Heavy rain in Chennai, Madurai and surrounding areas in Tamil Nadu
An alert of heavy rain and strong winds has also been issued in Assam and Tripura. Waterlogging may occur in the Brahmaputra Valley and surrounding areas.
